Paint Me a Story is our art and literacy program for children aged 2-12. Our guest reader will read a selected story, and then the children paint a corresponding piece of pottery. We are thrilled to welcome our guest readers this month, Caroline Byrne and her daughter Kelli, along with our special guest, Gatsby, the American Breed Guinea Pig. Caroline is the President of the Fremont Elite Runner’s Club and a 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee. FERC organizes and times running events for many local organizations, such as the Fremont Exchange Club, The Hayes Presidential Library and Museums, and the Fremont American Legion Post #608, to name a few. Kelli and her mother are active members of W.O.W. (Women on Water of Ohio), an all-ages women’s group that does many activities throughout the State of Ohio, including kayaking, hiking, camping, painting, and many more adventures. Caroline has floated on several rivers in Ohio, attended Paddlefest in Cincinnati, and completed two triathlon races.
Kelli is a part-time college student at Terra State Community College majoring in digital media and photographs family and special events through Kelli Rose Photography. She first became interested in guinea pigs by taking the 4-H Project Cavy, earned 1st Place at the county judging, and then competed at the Ohio State Fair in 2020. She learned about different breeds, how to care for your cavy and other information about being a responsible guinea pig owner. Gatsby the Guinea Pig loves different fruits and vegetables, scratches his chin, and popcorns around in his cage when he is happy. Gatsby lives next door to his friend Carmel and their canine brother, Parker. Sometimes, they get a visit from their cousin Lily the Black Lab.
Caroline and Kelli will read “Sammy: The Classroom Guinea Pig” by Alix Berenzy. Sammy is the beloved pet in Ms. B’s class. Usually, Sammy is happy in his cage, with his little house and soft blue sock, but today, it is different, and no one is sure what to do. What could it be? Join Ms. B and the children as they try to figure out what’s wrong with Sammy and learn more about guinea pigs. After the story is read, the kids will paint an adorable little ceramic hamster that’s also a money bank with a coin slot on top and a plug on the bottom. The cost of this event is $15 (non-refundable) per child. Registration is required by July 15. A.C.E. grants are applicable for this event.https://pottery-perfection.square.site/product/paint-me-a-story-sammy-the-classroom-guinea-pig-/7452?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR0nGydjhwr_QUGOpeY1aEt8fEZEUBljG09uf9WXFIEUND27rr01ed1Z3pc_aem_qKDbyWMJ24h2JO5Xr2ZfEg
